A citrusy tonic to cleanse your lungs

I was chatting with a friend who was complaining about her throat being sore and a persistent cough which was really bothering her when I came across a recipe for a very simple tonic that is super quick and very effective, especially if you have difficulties breathing.

It consists of just 3 citruses, so it’s packed with vitamin C, a lime, a lemon and an orange cut into pieces, skin included, a lemon grass lightly pressed so that the juices come out, an inch of fresh ginger and a spoonful of turmeric powder. Fill a pot with all the ingredients and 6 cups of water, bring it to a boil and let it boil for 5 minutes. Add some honey, not only to sweeten it, but for its anti-fungal properties (will add more about that).

This delicious citrusy tonic can help you cleanse your lungs.

So far so good right? Well, there is one more very special ingredient which I have never thought of adding to a hot beverage, and that’s what makes it really special for sore throat and lungs: oregano.

Yes, oregano! A staple in many kitchens this powerful herb is not only filled with antioxidants and vitamin K, but it also has antiviral properties by blocking the growth of bacteria that cause infections.

As for the benefits to the respiratory tract, the presence of two critical compounds, namely carvacrol and terpenes, help cleanse the lungs but also help in reducing inflammation and congestion hence improving the overall airflow.

Drinking this delicious tonic will not only give your immune system a boost, but also help cleanse the lungs.

Try it and let us know how your feel!
