A coffee scrub to tighten your skin

One of the things I enjoy the most about my beauty care routine is massages and scrubs. They invigorate the skin, stimulate blood flow leaving the skin softer, smoother and toned. Granted scrubs can be messy, as they usually contain a mix of oils and salts, and make the shower floor slippery, once or twice a week, perhaps even three times, we can live with the inconvenience and enjoy the afterwards benefits like a tightened skin.

So, if you are up for the challenge, you can definitely try to make this very simple homemade scrub that has just 3 ingredients: fresh coffee grounds, coconut oil and water. First thing first, let’s look into the coffee grounds: I personally use leftover coffee grounds as I am more looking for the stimulating sandy effect of the grains and their exfoliating effects on the skin, but if you want the extra added benefit you should use fresh coffee grounds. I do that every other week and it does make a difference.

Coffee scrub skin cellulite

This simple homemade remedy exfoliates and tightens the skin.

In fact, caffeine has a dilating effect on blood vessels that can help stimulate blood flow, but also get rid of accumulated water in the upper layer of the skin, hence preventing the formation of cellulite’s characteristic dimples which give the skin that orange peel look. Although there haven’t been enough studies, you can try this simple remedy and see how it works for you.

This simple scrub has a tightening effect due to a combination of the massage as well as the presence of caffeine (in the unused grounds only) which is rich in antioxidants, particularly polyphenols, which help fight off free radicals, responsible for skin aging. As such you can also use it for your face in the areas more prone to wrinkles such as the eyes and forehead.

Even though you can find many scrubs in the market with added retinol and other tightening agents, making this scrub is very simple: just add some hot water to fresh coffee grounds and a few drops of coconut oil for a softening effect. The rubbing will make the skin turn red and a bit itchy, as the blood flows to the area, so don’t worry, but if you notice that the discomfort persists afterwards you may want to give your skin a break.

Just like for any other natural solution it requires patience and consistency along with an overall healthy lifestyle to accompany the treatment. You might start seeing results after a couple of weeks, and if you do, just continue once or twice a week for optimal results.

Try it and let us know if it worked for you.
