Adaptogens, what are they?

Used for centuries in Chinese and Ayurvedic healing traditions, adaptogens are a unique class of plants that help you restore balance and protect the body. They’re best known for aiding the body react or recover from stress. In fact, they can help with physical fatigue, mental performance, hormones, anxiety and depression.

Though they all help the body restore balance, each adaptogen works a bit differently. The most popular adaptogens is ashwagandha. Ashwagandha is a nourishing, replenishing and calming adaptogen which is particularly popular when feeling stressed and overwhelmed.

As with everything natural to see the best results, you’ll want to incorporate an adaptogen for no less than 3 months. Adaptogens provide a way for our body to receive extra support and they work best when paired with a lifestyle that focuses on good sleep, mind calming practices, movement, and a well-balanced diet.

Although they are pretty safe, always consult with your doctor before taking an adaptogen, especially if you have a medical condition and/or take medication. In fact, due to lack of data, pregnant women must refrain from taking adaptogens, however, they can work very well for new moms looking to restore balance.
