A fresh face mask to hydrate your skin!

At the cost of looking like an alien, at least once a month, I do a face mask. I tried many store-bought ones and, of course, my skin reaction is very different according to the type of ingredients in it. If it’s clay, I am generally ok, but I am very careful about what I put on my face as much as I am of what I eat. And speaking of eating one of my favorite things in the summer is making a cold cucumber soup which I let rest in the fridge while I lay down with my cucumber yogurt mask on!

Back to the mask! As it’s almost always the case that our skin is the outward manifestation of what goes on internally, if we are eating fried or processed foods, versus fresh and clean ones, or how our hormones are acting or reacting to our lifestyle - too much stress. Before and during our monthly cycle our skin may be more prone to acne, as our body produces less estrogen and progesterone, but what about the rest of the month?

The reason for our skin to be less than flawless is complex, as there many factors that can contribute all at once, however, there are many things we can do at home when our skin feels dry and do not involve going to the store and buying some product hoping that it will do the job.

For example, cucumbers are a widely available vegetable with incredible hydration properties. Very likely you have a few in your own fridge right now and even if you do not like cow milk, like myself, you probably still eat greek yogurt. I almost always do as I love to munch on both. Cucumbers have many properties. Not only are they anti-inflammatory, but they are also loaded with antioxidants and nutrients like vitamin C and folic acid. Greek yogurt on the other end is filled with probiotics, which is the reason why this yogurt is so popular especially when it comes to digestion, but it is also a very powerful ally when it comes to skin inflammation and breakouts.

There are many great masks that you can do with cucumbers, but a super easy mask that you can do at home involves just one medium cucumber and a spoon of yogurt! Blend them together and apply them on dry skin. Leave the mix on for at least 30 minutes. Wash away and just watch your skin glow!
